Kings Park: Stories from an American Mental Institution - Documentary Screening & Panel Discussion

Asked back by popular demand, we invite you to our second New Jersey event featuring a screening of the award-winning documentary, Kings Park: Stories from an American Mental Institution, followed by a presentation with the filmmaker, Lucy Winer, and a panel discussion of representatives from the local mental health care community. In addition, original art from member artists of Arts Unbound will be on display. This daylong event is intended as a community forum "to bring together people with mental health challenges, advocates, students, faculty, law enforcement representatives, mental health service providers, and interested members of the community to discuss future directions that focus on community integration, wellness and recovery," states Jody Silver, Executive Director of the CSPNJ. The Kings Park film brings to life the hidden history of public mental health care and the ways that history has helped shape conditions today. The film provides a powerful catalyst for community discussion. This event is made possible by partnership and support from the Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey (CSPNJ) , the Rutgers Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions, the Rutgers School of Social Work, Office of Continuing Education, and Arts Unbound, a non-profit organization dedicated to the artistic achievement of individuals living with physical, developmental and mental disabilities.

This workshop does not have any offerings for this semester.
