Interventions for Parents with Personality Disorders

This webinar will address dependent, borderline, and narcissistic personality disorders in parents and other caregivers. Topics covered include: the definitions of personality traits and the common features of personality disorders; recognition of dependent, borderline and narcissistic personality features; other co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse problems; the impact that parental personality disorders may have on child development and family functioning; the obstacles posed to effective family and child centered interventions; and effective short term strategies to engage and defuse problematic character traits and behavior. The webinar will combine didactic presentation and group discussion. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring relevant case material for discussion and consultation.

About the Instructor

Janis Falvey, MS, LPC, DVS, has 35 years experience working with victims, perpetrators and family members of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Her private practice specializes in anxiety, depression and high conflict divorce families. She’s been a Rutgers instructor since 2006.
