Understanding Relationships in Social Work: Using Relational-Cultural Theory

Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT), is an evidence-based theoretical and practice approach that provides a framework for understanding human functioning. RCT considers the impact of race and cultural differences as a central component to development and adaptation. When working in multicultural settings, an RCT approach can improve relationships between clients, social workers, and treatment teams. This model provides a useful framework for practice as well as supervision.
