The Disintegration of the Family when Multiple Providers are Involved

ID: 5282

It is not uncommon for therapists to feel overwhelmed and pulled in by chaotic clients or families. In this workshop, core principles of Structural Family Therapy will be applied to examine the challenges when multiple providers work with families. In today’s managed care environment, each family member may have their own individual therapist and/or psychiatrist. This results in the family being pulled in different therapeutic directions and the family losing its own identity. Using video recorded sessions with Dr. Salvador Minuchin, participants will be encouraged to evaluate how therapists and families can best respond to when many helpers are involved. The skills and interventions that characterize Structural Family Therapy will be highlighted throughout the presentation.
