The Silver Wave: Medication Use in Older Adults

ID: 1133

Over the next 25 years, it is expected that individuals greater than 65 years of age will become 20% of the US population. The impact this population shift will have on our social, healthcare, and safety net systems is immense. And, as the US population lives longer, drug therapy, the most common modality to treat, cure, prevent, and palliate disease, will only become more prolific and complex. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the most common classes of medications used in older adults. Indications, contraindications, drug interactions, and safe handling of select agents will be reviewed using case-based teaching strategies. By the conclusion of the workshop, each participant will be able to identify medication red flags during a client home visit and implement steps to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
