Working with Immigrant and Undocumented Clients: A Deeper Understanding of the Core Principles of Trauma Informed Care and the Impact of Domestic Violence

ID: 4221WEB

Using the basic understanding of the first workshop, we will explore the dynamics of domestic violence through specific examples of abusive tactics that are used to control immigrants. This interactive workshop will address the clinical implications that violence has in the immigrant community. In this second part, utilizing the Core Principles of Trauma-Informed Care, we will illustrate how to provide appropriate clinical treatment to immigrant clients through real-life case examples. Focusing particularly on the first core principle, “Understanding Trauma and its Impact,” we will highlight the relationship between trauma and the effect on the brain and body in immigrant survivors of domestic violence. As a result, service providers will gain clinical skills through a trauma-informed lens to provide culturally competent clinical services.
