Legal and Ethical Issues in Child/Adolescent Mental Health

This workshop will outline the legal and ethical requirements in providing mental health services to children and adolescents. The first half of the workshop will set out the legal framework as defined by relevant statute and case law. This segment of the workshop will devote particular attention to the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and their applicability within various treatment settings. The second half of the workshop will focus on handling and resolving the ethical dilemmas that may arise in the treatment of children and minor adolescents with particular attention to confidentiality issues. *This workshop does not qualify for NBCC clock hours in ethics.
